Manchester based family support charities receive funding boost of £40k

The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has awarded £40,000 to two family charities in Manchester, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to supporting disadvantage people and communities.

Talbot House Support Centre has been awarded a grant of £18,600 to help fund the cost of a part-time support worker who will help the disability charity to increase its support services for parents and carers of people with severe learning disabilities.

Phillip Ascott, development manager at Talbot House Support Centre, said, “We provide a range of services for parents and carers and have seen demand dramatically increase with nearly 1,000 families on our database and up to 60 people a day visiting our centres. This grant will help us to continue to provide support to families and reduce parent-carers isolation and stress.”

A grant of £21,400 has also been awarded to Home-Start South Manchester to fund the role of a coordinator and senior administrator. The charity provides a one-to-one befriending scheme to families with children under five and works with over 90 families a year. The funding will help to fund two existing roles at the charity allowing them to continue its essential work in South Manchester.

In 2012, the Foundation invested £18.4 million into 826 small and medium charities that tackle disadvantage. Yvonne Taylor, grant manager for Lancashire, Cumbria and Manchester, said, “Both of these charities provide valuable services to families who need vital support to improve their overall well-being. The Foundation is committed to helping charities support the most disadvantaged in society to play a fuller role in their communities and deliver lasting change.”

The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales supports charities that help disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community. Local or regional charities with an income up to £1 million and national charities with an income up to £5 million can find out more about the funding criteria and grant programmes at www.lloydstsbfoundations.org.uk.
