Talbot House Black Tie Event 2012

18th October 2012

Talbot House Black Tie do which was held on the 28th September 2012, was a resounding success. For the second year running we managed to raise significant money to continue our work in providing support to parent-carers of people with learning disabilities.

Development Manager Phillip Ascott worked tirelessly months leading up to the event to ensure the night ran smoothly. This included sorting tickets, publicity, auction prices and a whole lot more.

On the day of the event Talbot House staff were pampered and preened for the night ahead. With hair done, nails done, frocks ready and venue set the night was set for a good do.

People arrived at the Midland Hotel in all their finery at 7pm for a drinks reception. There was a 7.30pm dinner call where everyone entered the Trafford suite (pictured) which was elegantly decorated and looked spectacular.

After everyone was seated we were treated to a performance of swing by the talented Andy Lees (pictured below) who also acted as master of ceremonies.

In between courses of the delicious three course meal everyone was encouraged to play games and buy raffle tickets for the raffle later in the evening.

After dinner everyone got down to the nitty gritty of why we were there – to raise much needed funds for Talbot House. The raffle was followed by the auction and people’s generosity was heart warming. On the night £4740.00 was raised.

The evening ended with a disco, drinking and dancing till the last person remained standing - at 1pm. Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the event including Manchester Carers Forum, DHL, Creative Vein, Birchall Blackburn, Nexus Computing, Calderstone’s to name but a few. Finally a big thank you to our fabulous Ron Keeling for supporting Talbot House no matter what.

“I thought the night was brilliant, lots of drinking and dancing, the food was very nice and the ambience of the room pulled it together lovely. Everyone was friendly and it was an amazing evening and to top it off we won the raffle – the funny thing was it was the vodka we had donated.”
Mary Berry – Parent/carer

“Another wonderful celebration of good food, company and good generosity. The evening was full of love, laughter and enjoyment by all. We are so grateful to all who supported and attended our second Black Tie charity dinner. We look forward to welcoming everyone again next year.”
