Big Health

28th June 2013

The Big Health Checkup day was a huge success, opened by Dame Sarah Storey who gave us a fantastic motivational speech.

Covering three floors of the Ethiad Stadium the health checks were an invaluable part of the day for people with Learning Disabilities and their parent/carers. The Mayor of Manchester even joined us in the Talbot House room for a chat.

Many thanks to Beverley Dargan and Anna Fedeczko for their speech on transition and health. Also big thanks to Sabrina, Helen and Lauren for their massive input into the day.
Talbot House was pivotal in the work involved with the organising and running of the day. Talbot House Support Worker Jo Moore received a bunch of flowers and a mention in a speech in which Moira Donlan said ' Jo, on behalf of the Talbot House team, made a huge personal and professional contribution to making the Big Health Event such a successful day'

All of the information collected will go towards the SAF (self assessment framework) which in turn improves services for people with Learning Disabilities and Parent/Carers.

Below is a poem by John Bottomley about the day:

Together with a variety of hundreds of colourful folk the sun shone brightly

A grand array of stalls organised by educated and qualified staff so sprightly

With a well planned programme for our Manchesters' learning difficulty needs

The champion speakers scheduled the importance of those present and their deeds

Activity and physiotherapy zones covered a multitude of beneficial exercise

And the abundance of Health Professionals gave us confidence in this enterprise

We also colletced STARS showing proof of our interest and attendance

To get a certificate for the experience to take home or our centre for all to glance

This show definitely took top spot

It' a great shame City did not!!!
