Jubilee Fun

It was Jubilee fun for all ages all the way at Talbot House on Friday with dancing, games, barbecue, stalls and bunting to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 60 years on the Throne.
Dozens of parent carers and friends of the centre came to a sunny day of jubilation at its new Newton Heath base.
Full advantage was taken of the grounds and car park, as well as a bit of free pampering on the side, with dancing, chat and fellowship going on inside the building.

General Manager Bernie Woods, who led the dancing in the lounge (pictured) said: “We did all this to celebrate our beautiful Queen being on the throne for 60 years and to give our parent carers a great day. We have certainly had that. It has been a tremendous day – fun, food, good fellowship and, just for one day, no caring.”

Among the more than 70 people at the event were carers 70-year-old Sheila Tory and her cousin Beryl Brennan, aged 68.
Sheila, from Newton Heath, said: “It’s been smashing. I have started coming to Talbot House since it moved. I come twice a week. It’s been great fun and very friendly.”
Beryl, from Gorton, said: “We’ve had a lovely day. Really good.”Karen Meecham, aged 47, also from Gorton, said: “I come twice a week. I’ve had a great time.”

At the younger end was 20-year-old Rachel Mulvey from Newton Heath who came with mum Anita, aged 64 (pictured). Both had dressed for the occasion in Union Jack trousers.
Rachael said: “I have had a lovely time. I didn’t want to wear the Union Jack trousers. Mum had to persuade me but now I am glad I did.”

And four-year-old Meakell Wadley – at the celebration with 42-year-old Grandad Jason who is a volunteer worker at the centre (pictured) – also had an awesome day saying: “I have had a really good time. I liked the cakes and the soft drinks best. But I really like coming here with granddad to see where he works.”

And winners of Talbot House’s own Olympic Games for egg and spoon, three-legged, and sack races and team hoopla like nine-year-old Jack Norman, four-year-old Charlotte Turlington , seven year-old Iris Bell and Jayda Marie Morgan, also seven were all clearly pleased as punch with the day’s events (pictured below).

Organiser Sabrina Wright was pleased with the day’s events when she finally managed a sit down after six hours solid saying: “It went really well. We’ve had a frantic few weeks organising everything but I’m really pleased with the way things have gone.“

The weather was sunny, everyone has had a good time and it was worth it.”
