Summer days out 2012

5th September 2012

Talbot House has just completed four summer days out for around 50 over 55 years of age parent/carers. All the days out were successful in providing a much needed break for everyone involved. Lunch and transport were provided along with a tour guide to inform the party of interesting stories and facts along the way.

The first day out which took place on the 9th August 2012 involving a trip through Buxton and the Peak district, stopping for a visit and lunch in the ancient market town of Bakewell which is the ‘capital of the Peaks’.

For the second day out which took place on the 16th August 2012 the carers were treated to a ‘Blackpool party’. The group descended on ‘The New President Hotel’ for one of their party afternoons which included a sing song, a dance, a game or two of bingo and wonderful homemade food. The afternoon was hosted by Miss Stephanie Sparkles who ensured everyone had a great time.

The third day out which took place on the 23rd August 2012 was a trip to the beautiful county of Cumbria where the party of carers went from Settle to Appleby on the Settle to Carlisle railway. The Settle to Carlisle Railway was the last great mainline railway to be built in this country it takes in views of the magnificent Cumbrian countryside. Then luncheon at the Grade 2 listed Tufton Arms Hotel followed by the return journey taking in more magnificent views whilst hearing of the history of the area.

The fourth and final day out which was on the 30th August was entitled ‘Yorkshires finest’ a trip which took the coach full of carers over the Yorkshire Dales to the village of Grassington. The trip continued on through the Dales until the party stopped for a wonderful carvery at The Millstones. The trip continued on to the charming little Town of Pateley Bridge where the parent/carers browsed the shops for mementos of their trip, then homeward bound through the Yorkshire Dales.

Talbot House Assistant Manager Frances Crake who organised the trips said ‘Everyone had a great time and a good laugh. It was a great get together for parent/carers who don't see each from one year to the next.’
