Team Talbot run up the funds

1st June 2012

A dozen-strong team of “athletes” from Talbot House raised more than £3,000 for the parent-carers centres as they ran through the centre of Manchester last month.

While organiser and Development Manager Phil Ascott had to miss the event through illness, his squad managed to complete the 10 Kilometre course to raise vital sponsorship cash to boost the centre’s activities.
More than 40,000 people took part in the BUPA 10K Manchester Run and while our team failed to figure in the fastest times, they were delighted to finish the event.

Sabrina Wright said: “It was great. We ran the first kilometre and sort of walked the other nine. We’re really pleased to have taken part and raised more than £3,000. Even though I am still suffering from it.”
Husband Darren, also limping from his efforts, said: “It was a great day. We’re doing it next year – whatever she says.”

And there is more strenuous Talbot House fund raising to come with a group from the centre taking part in the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride on July 7th and support worker Jacqui Hyde doing the Salford Quays One Mile Swim on July 1st.

Jacqui (44) who swam for Manchester County in her youth, said: “I hadn’t swum for years. I started again in January and promptly got a chest infection so started again a few weeks ago.
“I’ve often swum a mile before but never done open-water swimming. I’m looking forward to it and hope to raise more than £500.”
