Talbot House Blog

We have moved!

28th July 2011

Here it is – the new Talbot House in High Peak Street – just a short trip down the road from the old building but miles better in terms of how it can cater for our parent carers.

There is a brand new entrance hall leading to a bright but cosy new parent/carers lounge, a comfy modern cafeteria, an intimate pamper room and no less than three toilets – one with fully equipped for disabled visitors, new offices and private rooms, a car park and a garden.

General Manager Bernie Woods is delighted with the new premises:
“This is what our parent carers deserve. It is full of light and love. When I first came to Talbot House more than 30 years ago, I never dreamt of a place like this. It is everything we could ask for. Now we can take all the light and love of the old Talbot House and from here do more and spread it a little wider. I feel proud and privileged to have been part of this.”

Chair of Trustees Dave Williams said:
“This has been five years of hard work. But my goodness it has been worth it. I am delighted for our parent carers. When I came here for the first time, I thought “Wow! Look at the light”.
And centre users are just as delighted as Bernie and Dave. Hilary Adams, aged 59, said: “It is great. It is the place we need and deserve.” But Bernie summed up the joyous feeling of all involved in Talbot House in her own inimitable way saying: “It's like being in a bath full of jelly with the taps running custard.”

A sweet move indeed!
